Teen involved in fatal traffic crash Friday morning in Morrow County

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash Friday morning involving a Mount Gilead area teen. Landon Hanahan, 18, was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty northbound on County Road 30 in Gilead Township, Morrow County, around 5:45 a.m., the patrol reported in a news release.  Hanahan went off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the patrol said.  Troopers with the Mount Gilead Post investigating the crash determined Hanahan was not wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash, the patrol said. 

Smolek case bound over to Circuit Court following preliminary exam

BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The case of a man who is accused of threatening his former girlfriend and her current boyfriend with a knife in late December was bound over to Branch County Circuit Court on Tuesday following a preliminary examination in District Court. 31-year-old Aundra Smolek is charged with two counts of unlawful imprisonment, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and a count of domestic violence. He was arrested following the alleged incident in the suspect’s Gilead Township residence on Stoney Point Drive. The former girlfriend texted her mother at one point and said she was not able to willingly leave the house.

Suspect arraigned on five counts in Sunday night knife incident

BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A suspect was arraigned Monday in Branch County District Court after he allegedly threatened his former girl friend and her current boyfriend with a knife in the suspect’s Gilead Township residence. 31-year-old Aundra Smolek was formally charged by prosecutors with two counts of unlawful imprisonment, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and a count of domestic violence. He was being held in the Branch County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Smolek’s probable cause hearing in District Court was scheduled for January 7 with a preliminary exam set for January 12. Michigan State Police say the incident took place at a home on Stoney Point Drive.
