Laguna Beach City Council voted unanimously to waive the confidentiality and attorney-client privilege of certain closed sessions held July and August regarding former city manager Shohreh Dupuis’ claims of alleged harassment by council member George Weiss and the resulting settlement during its Nov. 7 meeting.
Fans of pickleball made some “noise” at the Oct. 24 City Council Meeting as about 25 players, young and old, arrived with paddles in hand to fight for their favorite court.
Bob Gentry, Lida Lenney, Toni Iseman: all three were local officials and environmental activists. In my nearly fifty years of living here, these are the mayors I remember for their courage and boldness in opposing offshore oil drilling, saving Laguna Canyon from developers’ bulldozers, and supporting climate action, respectively. Some of them drew statewide attention for their green leadership.
Who deserves a fair trial? I was surprised to read an opinion by Jeff Sebo in the Los Angeles Times, Oct. 23 edition that posited that elephants deserve a fair trial to determine how they would live out their lives in captivity.
In his Oct. 6 guest column, Billy Fried expresses outrage that George Weiss has had the temerity to defend himself against the factually bereft charge that he somehow forced Shohreh Dupuis to retire. Because there are so many inaccuracies in Billy's column, I'll just mention a few of his greatest hits.
