2022 was a year of normalization – I went back to what I love to do most – evangelizing about the opportunities in revenue and commercial leadership, meeting with and talking to executives, consultants, and startups across the world, spending 130+ days on the road, doing my part in the recovery of business travel.
The hotel booking experience may never be the same. According to the 2022 report “U.S.Traveler Sentiments on Attribute-Based Shopping (ABS),” released by Stayntouch in partnership with the NYU Tisch Center of Hospitality, 85 percent of travelers feel some level of uncertainty that their guestroom will contain all the features and attributes that are most important to them.
When it comes to hotel tech, we may all agree that PMSs are at the top of the food chain. It s semantically already in the name itself: a PMS is the SYSTEM used to MANAGE your PROPERTY. This gives the software connotations of centrality in operations. However, a new wave of leaner systems is rising: PMSs are becoming "hubs" rather than all-in-one solutions, using open APIs to allow users to plug in other software and tools as needed. These systems are less about "managing the property," and more about integrating third-party software.
For years, many in the hotel industry have talked about Attribute Based Selling (ABS). It has been discussed at conferences and in webinars with many claiming it is the way of the future that looks like the way of the past, while other claim it is currently in action out in the market.
