IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said that cyclone Asani has already achieved maximum stage of intensification and is gradually getting weakened.
"They had apparently strayed beyond the sea beach and waded into the water and were swept into the sea in choppy waters," the PTI news agency quoted an official as saying.
Severe cyclonic storm Asani packing gale-force winds up to 120 kmph which is moving towards the east coast bringing along heavy rain, is likely to recurve in a north-northeastward direction on reaching near the shore and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm, the Met office said on Monday.
Cyclone Asani likely to weaken on nearing coast, unlikely to make landfall in Odisha or Andhra Pradesh - The cyclone will not make landfall either in Odisha or Andhra Pradesh, but it will move parallel to the east coast and cause rainfall, IMD said.
