ILWomen DII Roundup: Lindenwood, Le Moyne & More

Wednesday April 28th, 2021 2:00pm (Photo Courtesy: Don Adams Jr.)  It was a week of upsets and our first conference championships as we’re less than two weeks from the 2021 NCAA selection show.  Any discussion of great games over the last week has to start with a matchup between the two teams atop the national rankings. Lindenwood showed why it might still be the team to beat in the Midwest Region, taking down conference rival and top ranked UIndy 12-10. Additionally, Roberts Wesleyan came up with a program-changing victory, beating then No. 8 Grand Valley State 12-9. In conference action there three champions were crowned over the weekend. However, unlike NCAA basketball there is no automatic bid for conference championships given only 12 teams make up the women’s lacrosse tournament field in 2021. This guarantees multiple conference champions will not reach the NCAA Championships this year, so congrats to Alabama Huntsville, Mount Olive and Queens on clinching titles over

Six goals from Emma Arnold and four from Lexy Biller helped the Lions hold off then-No. 2 UIndy. A rematch is likely looming this week, as these two teams begin play as the top two seeds in the inaugural GLVC championship tournament. There are a few other conference tournaments that are also set to begin, including the NE10 tournament and the PSAC tournament. No. 2 Le Moyne is the clear favorite in the NE10, while the PSAC event features three members of this week’s top 10  No. 4 West Chester, No. 7 East Stroudsburg and No. 8 Seton Hill. The undefeated Griffins were one of the big climbers in this week’s Top 20, as they join the top 10 for the first time this year.

How fiction can persuade readers that climate change is real

When best-selling author Catherine Bush was looking for inspiration for her latest novel – a gripping eco-thriller about climate change – someone suggested that she visit Fogo Island, the largest offshore island of Newfoundland and Labrador, in Canada. This miniature world of ice, sea-cliff paths, friendly people and colourful houses sparked Bush’s imagination and became a major influence in “A lot of people still prefer not to think about the climate crisis,” she begins. “It’s very painful, overwhelming and depressing. But I think there’s something very powerful about asking readers to live through a place, through a story, and through the emotional lives of the characters.”
