Subasa Mohanta and Raimati Ghiuria, two women from Odisha, India, have been selected to share their experiences and success in millet cultivation at the G20 Summit. Both women come from tribal communities and credit the success of millet cultivation to the Millet Mission initiated by the Odisha government. The mission has expanded to cover 177 blocks in 30 districts and has contributed to the resurgence of millet cultivation.
India is using food as a means of diplomacy during the G20 Summit in Delhi. World leaders and delegates attending the summit will be treated to a variety of Indian street food and millet-based dishes. The menus have been customised by hotels to showcase the diverse flavours of Indian cuisine, with a focus on regional specialties and wellness. The promotion of millets also highlights India s efforts to address food security.
