Fulton County Traffic Safety and Stop DWI recognizes grads | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS The Fulton County Traffic Safety Board and STOP DWI recently presented scholarship awards to two local graduating seniors.  The Antone “Tony” Ralbovsky Scholarship Award, presented annually to a student graduating from one of the Fulton county high schools, was given to Jillian Bazan. A recent Broadalbin Perth High School graduate, Bazan will be attending SUNY Adirondack with plans of majoring in Criminal Justice.  The Ron Hill Scholarship Award, funded by Elaine and Jim Hill, was awarded to Gloversville High School Senior Bradley Wisniewski. Wisniewski will be studying mechanical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology this fall.

Officials waive start rate for per diem nurses | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Board of Supervisors on Monday temporarily waived the start rate for per diem nurses at the county Correctional Facility because the county is dealing with an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak there. Sheriff Richard Giardino reported a recent outbreak at the jail impacting both staff and inmates. The board on Monday at the County Office Building authorized Giardino to hire per diem registered nurses (2019 start rate $24.42 per hour, 2019 one-year rate $28.73 per hour); and per diem licensed practical nurses (2019 start rate $18.20 per hour, 2019 one-year rate $21.41 per hour) in “this instance only” to deal with the outbreak.

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Board of Supervisors on Monday appointed the two major parties’ election commissioners to two-year terms, including a new Democratic Party commissioner. The appointments were on the recommendations of each party’s formal committees, and terms run until Dec. 31, 2022. Supervisors appointed G. Jeremiah Ryan of Gloversville as Fulton County Board of Elections’ Democratic election commissioner. He replaces John Zawadzki. The vote for Ryan was 18-1, with Republican Northampton Supervisor James Groff voting no. Long-time Republican Election Commissioner Lee Hollenbeck of Broadalbin was also reappointed. County Administrative Officer Jon Stead told the board during its online meeting that it was acting on very last-minute resolutions.

Free taxi rides to be offered | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fulton County Traffic Safety Board is again conducting its annual New Year’s Eve Free Taxi Ride Program Thursday through Friday, but with shortened hours. “We definitely are doing it,” county District Attorney Chad Brown said Monday. Brown said this year’s Free Taxi Ride Program will run from 9 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday. He said the Traffic Safety Board figures not as many people will be out partying this year because of the pandemic. The program is usually run later into the night.
