DENVER â The Colorado Avalanche Information Center issued avalanche warnings Tuesday for the central and southern mountains of Colorado after several more inches of snow fell Monday and overnight on top of what is already a weak snowpack.
The avalanche warnings are in effect for the Aspen, Grand Mesa, Sawatch Range, Gunnison, Northern and Southern San Juan, and Sangre de Cristo backcountry forecast zones through Wednesday morning. Those zones also have avalanche danger ratings at âhighâ â 4 of 5 on the danger scale.

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. â A backcountry skier was killed in an avalanche in Grand County Saturday, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).
The solo skier was buried in an avalanche in the First Creek Drainage of Berthoud Pass. Family members reported the man overdue, but had a good last seen point, according to CAIC.
Members of the Grand County Search and Rescue team worked into the night to recover the body. His identity has not been released.
This is the fourth death of a backcountry skier caused by an avalanche in Colorado this month.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has released its final reports on two avalanches â one Friday, one Saturday â that left three people dead.
The first avalanche occurred on the morning of Friday, Dec. 18. A man snowmobiled to Ohio Pass and explored the area for a couple hours. He ran into a group of three other snowmobilers at a high point southwest of where the avalanche began. The man told the group he d already skied three runs and planned to go back down to his snowmobile and then head back to town for work, according to the CAIC report.

Officials are urging skiers to pay attention to forecasts after a series of avalanches killed three skiers in Colorado this weekend.
On Sunday, San Juan County Search and Rescue recovered the bodies of two skiers who were buried by the snow near Ophir Pass after they were caught in an avalanche, according to a report from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). The skiers, who authorities identified as Albert Perry, 55, and Dr. Jeff Paffendorf, 51, both of Durango, were reported overdue on Saturday after having planned to ski in an area known as the Battleship.
