Noles Bats Catch Fire in 16-7 Run-Rule Victory over No 22 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The fifth-ranked Florida State softball team (39-8, 16-2) had its best offensive game of the season in a 16-7 run-rule victory over No. 22 Virginia Tech (33-15, 12-9) to complete the series sweep on Saturday afternoon in front of a packed Tech Softball Park. The Seminoles' 16 runs were the most since 2020 against Detroit Mercy where they scored 22. It was their highest scoring game against an ACC opponent since Mar. 31, 2019, when they won 16-3 against Virginia. The Seminoles wasted no time jumping all over the Hokies in the first inning. Kaley Mudge got the party started with a walk then Mack Leonard was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for Jahni Kerr. Kerr singled to left center to bring Mudge home to give the Noles the early 1-0 lead. Hallie Wacaser then doubled off the left field wall to score Leonard and Kerr to give the Noles a 3-0 lead after the first frame. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State moved up three spots and is ranked 16th in the fourth College Football Playoff poll of the season, it was revealed Tuesday night live on ESPN. The Seminoles, who are 16th in the Associated Press and Coaches polls this week, improved to 8-3 overall with a 49-17 win over Louisiana last Saturday. The victory was Florida State’s fourth straight by at least 25 points, the longest active streak in the nation and FSU’s ACC-best fifth 30-point victory this season. Florida State is one of three teams, along with No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Ohio State, ranked in the top-10 nationally in both yards per play on offense and defense. The Seminoles are ninth nationally with an average of 4.57 yards per play allowed and 10th with an average of 6.87 yards gained per play. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State Women’s Basketball guard Ta’Niya Latson has become the first ACC student-athlete ever to sweep the league’s weekly awards in consecutive weeks, announced on Monday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Last week, Latson became just the seventh player to win both awards when she took home honors for ACC Player and Rookie of the Week. On Monday, she repeated the feat once again after averaging 26.5 points in wins over rival Florida and on the road at Houston. Latson led FSU in scoring in both games this past week, topping Florida with 32 points and leading the Seminoles with 21 at Houston. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State Women’s Basketball (4-0) defeated the Florida Gators (2-1), 92-77, in The Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Wednesday night. Five players reached double figures for the Seminoles, highlighted by the lethal scoring of freshman guard and reigning Her Hoop Stats Player of the Year Ta'Niya Latson. The Miami, Fla., native delivered her second 30-point performance of the season, scoring 32 points on 12-of-21 shooting along with five rebounds and four assists. The sensational freshman was unguardable all night. Sophomore Mariana Valenzuela played big off the bench with 13 points and five rebounds.
