1. Celebrate Migratory Bird Day
Families can celebrate Migratory Bird Day at 10:30 Saturday at Taylor Park, 900 E. Stephenson St., Freeport. Activities will include team nest building, obstacle courses, kite flying and snacks. 2. Admire area wildlife
The Northwest Illinois Audubon Society will host a visit to Mississippi Palisades State Park to observe signs of spring at 9 a.m. Saturday. The park is home to unusual wildflowers and birds. Participants will meet at the first parking lot inside the south entrance, 16327A state Route 84, Savanna. Those who wish to participate must confirm their attendance by calling 815-938-3204.

FREEPORT Jessica Modica is returning to the role of Freeport Art Museum executive director after spending the past 15 months focused on completing the Arts Plaza project located downtown.
“I’m thrilled to be back at the helm of the art museum” Modica said in a news release. “2021 marks a new era for our organization and I look forward to helping bring about exciting new developments.”
Modica began her tenure with the Freeport Art Museum in 2004, working first in the collections and exhibitions areas before moving into the executive role in 2012.
The nonprofit recently outlined a new long-term mission, vision and strategic plan that calls for the creation of an arts and cultural campus in the downtown district, including the relocation of the main museum facility.
Freeport Community Foundation awards spring grants

FREEPORT The Freeport Community Foundation recently awarded 15 grants totaling $75,914.72 to nonprofits benefiting Stephenson, Jo Daviess and Carroll counties.
Grants were awarded from the organization’s Community Needs/Marvin Unrestricted Fund and the Craig Wilson Trust.
Recipients and projects include Cats Care, which received $2,000 for the It s All About the Head program; the Davis Mental Health Group, which received $800 for a community resource guide; the Freeport Art Museum, which received $5,150 for a virtual museum; Madonna Renewal Education, which received $8,500 for its crisis support; Malcolm Eaton Enterprises, which received $6,890 for Eats & Beats 2021; the Northern Illinois Food Bank Stephenson County, which received $12,500 for Take 50; NWHomeStart , which received $7,500 to provide financial services for its tenants; Ramp, which received $2,640.24 for access to servic
