Well, ive been going to the nihonmachi street fair for years and it never ceases to amaze me how it remains a traditional event of fun while constantly evolving. Being called the original melting pot of street fairs really fits. And joining me to explain how is longtime friend of the show, richard jue, the Board Chairman of the nihonmachi street fair. And also with us is a committee member, justin butac. Welcome to the show. Melting pot is a good description, right . Richard jue absolutely. Robert give us an idea, first of all, a little history for people who dont know it, when the nihonmachi street fair started, what it kind of started out as, and how its evolved. Richard well, it started out initially in 1973 withwe had a Cherry Blossom that just displayed the businesses. So, nihonmachi street fair developed from that way to display the nonprofit organizations of the city. So, steveand his group of students from the Asian American studies from sf state came up with this idea. And ron

Folks have been packing the place all day long and automatic day long it has been cold in the east bay. Heres video taken from earlier today. Black ice covered part of the road and patches of ice in the exist off highway 24, and in lafayette, homes hat white rooftops. In well nut creek a water main burst downtown on bonanza street. The cold temperature may be to blame nor pipe break. Crews worked until also while ago repairing the pipe and the street. The recommendation is to wrap your pipes when it gets this cold, and wrap yourselves up as well. Im freezing. Its very cold out here. But were having a good time with the kids playing. As the sun has set, the numbers are dropping as we speak. Currently 46 in oakland right now. San jose, a cool temperature of 47 degrees. Currently 43 in napa and a chilly 41 in livermore. Tonight, temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s, the freeze warning in effect begins at midnight, including all locations except the coast and san francisco, where we could see the freeze damage to sensitive plants, tomorrow we are tracking a little bit of rain, minimal storm, one on the storm impact scale but will bring wet weather. I have been told by oakland fire chief that hole is five or six feet deep. The rescuer went down there in a harness and down there for about 15 minutes or so. And then he came back out. He got some more equipment and came back down in the hole 20 minutes ago and down there ever since. They have a giant vacuum sucking dirt. Oakland fire says the man is alert and has been talking. We dont know the extent of his injuries. Certainly he has to be uncomfortable in this situation. There is Oakland Fire Department gurney that has been pulled up next to the hole. We expect he is going to be popping out of the home at any minute. We have been fine tuning this. It started at 12 50 when oakland fire got the hole where this man was strapped on 23rd street above foothill boulevard in east oakland. Apparently there is some kind of sewer work
