DPP’s Kabambe Calls For Unity Amid Wrangles In The Party

As dust is refusing to settle in the then ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Dalitso Kabambe, one of the presidential aspirants has called for unity. Kabambe, former Reserve Bank Governor said this yesterday in Nsanje during a campaign rally for Francis Kasaila who is contesting for the parliamentary seat slated for March 30, 2021. Aftermath of the June 23 fresh presidential elections in which DPP was ousted out of power, the party has been facing leadership challenges as some are demanding the resignation of the party president, former president Peter Mutharika. DPP’s vice president for the south Kondwani Nankhumwa and Joseph Mwananvekha are also on the campaign trail hunting for votes for the forthcoming party’s convention.

Mandevana signing after verifying his details on a ballot paper while Rudi looks on One of the candidates from Nsanje North constituency Kennedy Jailosi who was representing UTM Party said he has pulled out of the race because of financial problems. Jailosi said since the party is silent on the forthcoming by-election he cannot manage on his own. “It is true that I have pulled out of the race, this is so because of my financial problems, the party is not helping me, this problem is not for me only but for everyone who is contesting on UTM ticket, we went to the new Presidential elections without  the party support and this time around it is the same, since the party is silent, I will not push them there by choosing to pull out of the race,” said Jailosi.

This came to right during vetting exercise which happened on Thursday, 11th of March 2021. UTM’s Kennedy Jailosi who was contesting in Nsanje North Constituency said he has pulled out of the race because of financial challenges. “I have pulled out of the race because of financial problems; the party is forthcoming – not for me only, but for everyone contesting on UTM ticket. So, since the party is silent, best option for me is to pull out of the race,” said Jailosi. On his part, the UDF candidate for Nsanje Central Constituency Laston Saidi Katole said he will not contest since they are in an alliance with Democrat Progressive party whose candidate is Francis Kasaila.
