Political expert tips Nakhumwa on his popularity

By Lovemore Katanda Political expert, Humphreys Mvula has said leader of opposition in parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa is among the Democratic Progress Party( DPP) members who have massive support in the party. He was commenting through the press on the just ended by- elections organised by Malawi Electoral Commission ( MEC) on Tuesday 30 March, 2021 in seven constituencies and two wards which saw the former ruling DPP getting one council seat. Mvula also said DPP miserably lost in by- elections is due to unorganized campaign and lack of unity among party members who were campaigning. “I think party members were supposed to bring in new message to regain trust from voters. Again, DPP members were supposed to speak with one voice a thing which has not been displayed during the whole campaign period,” he said.

MEC says electoral criminal offenders must be reported to police

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Chifundo Kachale has said all those suspected to have committed various electoral offences must be reported to police. Justice Dr Chifundo Kachale: Expressed disappointment with political violence Kachale said this when he officially announced winners in the Tuesday by-election. He said the commission received complaints that some candidates were offering handouts, reports of violence and some candidates campaigning outside the recommended time. According to Kachale, who is also High Court judge,  these complaints should be reported to law enforcement agencies with evidence. Kachale says these are electoral criminal cases and must be reported. He has also warned against those who wanted to use their connections with the Commission to get their nominations submitted outside the required time.
