Another pedestrian hit this evening, this time in quincy. Around 9 30, a car hit a black male on washington street right outside of wild willies burgers. He was sent to South Shore Hospital with serious head injuries. Police say they are not life threatening. No word yet on the driver but the car did stop at the scene. State police tell us that a 44yearold dedham man was killed when near the entrance of the stonybrook reservation. The passenger was seriously hurt, and has been taken to brigham and womens hospital. Strong storms hitting the region this afternoon, knocking over this tree in holden and causing drivers to have to make their way carefully through flooded streets. The threat continues tonight. It is pouring out from behind the town hall. An old schoolhouse there, that is what is on fire. Its right next to the town hall. Dave faherty is there. Reporter you mention the old schoolhouse. I just talked to the fire chief. Everything is being done to prevent this fire from going over to the town hall, which is off to my left. Let me step out of the way. This is the old schoolhouse. You can see the heavy smoke pouring out of the building. Trying to get some to the fire and also trying to get to the front doors of the old schoolhouse. It is nearly 100 years old and has been the center of a major controversy on whether or not to tear this building down. In fact, i dont know if you fencing around the building to keep anyone out. How big that tornado was that touched down in appomattox county. This is the damage it left behind late yesterday afternoon. The National Weather service says the deadly twister had peak wind speeds with an ef 3 intensity thats between 136 and 165 miles per hour. They believe it touched down on berry lane and took a 13 mile track northeast. And it was about a quarter of a mile wide. This is only the third tornado to touch down in appomattox county since they started keeping track in 1950. 3 danner we have Live Team Coverage from appomattox. Safe and warm. Eyewitness News Reporter joe bruno continues our Team Coverage over on wilkerson boulevard. It is 20 degrees over there. Heating up were seeing drivers coming in. You can see lots of the buses are heating up. Many drivers preparing to head out on the routes. Theyre preparing to pick up children right now. The cms officials bringing them early to heat up the buses, if they arrive at the school early, they will wait in the lot and keep kids inside so they dont have to wait in the cold crews are working, the frigid overnight temperatures not enough to stop them from continuing on the i77 toll lane project. On the streets of uptown, we spotted people in huge blankets trying to sleep. Many of the homeless shelters were at full capacity. Photos of exploding power lines and a small fire that broke out mack wood road. Crews worked through the Early Morning hours to reopen wilkerson boulevard. Yesterday, the Severe Weather caused a power line to fall and the poles to lean towards the road. Most of the damage we saw yesterday is with fallen trees. Several homes will need to be repaired including this home, the Charlotte Fire Department deemed unsafe to enter. They will need to find a new way to work after trees fell on their cars. He sent me a picture of the car and i was shocked. 45 to 60 seconds before the tree fell. And a local home owner tells me the city was supposed to come out here and remove this tree yesterday. They never made it out. Theyre supposed to come this morning but it will take awhile for them to clear the scene for alternate routes on how to avoid this part of queens road. Here is mark taylor.
