FD council to consider infrastructure work | News, Sports, Jobs

bshea@messengernews.net A handful of infrastructure contracts are on the agenda for the Fort Dodge City Council tonight. The council will also consider an application for $18 million in state assistance for the development of a pavilion and plaza at Corridor Plaza. The council’s work will begin at 5 p.m. today with a workshop on health insurance. The council’s regular business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. During that session, the council will consider awarding a contract for the annual street repaving project. Fort Dodge Asphalt Co. has submitted the only bid of about $908,000. Among the streets planned for repaving this year are 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th streets between Central Avenue and Second Avenue North. Also, Central Avenue between Third Street and the Canadian National Railway tracks is slated for a fresh coat of asphalt.

County mask regulation remains in place for now | News, Sports, Jobs

Kim Reynolds’ decision to roll back some of the heightened safety precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19 this week, the mask regulation passed by the Webster County Board of Health in December will remain in effect until at least March 15. The board held a special meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss the future of the mask mandate regulation. “We are still in the middle of the pandemic and masking is one effective strategy that definitely helps until we get herd immunity and get to a point where we can safely de-escalate slowly,” board chair Dr. Vinil Bhuma said..

FD council OKs police contract | News, Sports, Jobs

bshea@messengernews.net A new contract with police officers was unanimously approved by the Fort Dodge City Council on Monday. It is a one-year deal that goes into effect July 1 and ends June 30, 2022. Officers will receive a 2 percent raise on July 1 and a 2 percent raise on Jan. 1, 2022. Detectives will receive supplemental pay of 25 cents an hour whenever they are called out at times when they are not scheduled to work. The pact with Public Professional and Maintenance Employees Local 2003 covers patrol officers, detectives, sergeants and lieutenants. In another human resources matter, the council extended some additional leave time for workers who become ill with COVID-19 or have family members that get sick from the virus.
