I’m not bragging when I say that I ate at Mahi‘ai Table, the restaurant inside Foodland Farms at Ka Makana Ali‘i, three times within a week. I mean, that wasn’t even the plan. My first visit, Foodland invited me to try items on the new menu. That weekend, after Poke Fest, I find myself back with the Frolic team for impromptu pau hana drinks and snacks. A few days later my parents, who are staying in ‘Ewa Beach, decide to organize one last family dinner before they head back to the mainland. “How about Mahi‘ai?” Mom innocently suggests.

Food-A-Go-Go Restaurant Week is coming April 5 to 12. Restaurants across Hawai‘i are featuring special dishes or prix fixe menus and donating auction items for two reasons: to support local eateries and raise money for agricultural education in our public schools.
The whole thing is being organized by the Hawai‘i Agricultural Foundation, which introduces farming to elementary school kids and aquaponics to middle and high school students, who also get to visit local farms. The hope is to increase support for buying local produce, and maybe even inspire future farmers.

Call me out all you want, but boneless fried chicken tenders are the best form of fried chicken. Yeah, I said it. Chicken fingers, crispers, or goujons if you’re from the U.K. are meaty, crunchy and just so easy to eat because there are literally no bones about ‘em. Foodland, a major fried chicken player in our foodscape, recently added its version to the deli counters at Foodland Farms Ala Moana, Pearl City and Ka Makana Ali‘i. A friend saw them on Instagram and implored me to see how they stacked up to the store’s original bone-in fried chicken.
