The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta donated food to the the Fondazzjoni Sebħ for all its residential homes.
The food was provided in collaboration with Humanity First Switzerland, an international relief and humanitarian wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
Fondazzjoni Sebħ provides residential services to children and also to female victims of violence and their children. It also provides community social work service to families living in Hamrun and Marsa.
Following the donation, Imam Laiq Ahmed Atif said that serving humanity was in itself a form of worship. The entire Islamic teachings can be divided into two main categories, the rights of God Almighty and the rights of one another, and we are expected to fulfil both these rights.
A new shelter for survivors of abuse and their children has been opened by the Church in Zejtun, replacing another one in Santa Venera.
Il-Milja, housed at Dar Ġesù Nazzarenu Zejtun, was inaugurated by Archbishop Charles Scicluna and will be run by the Church through Fondazzjoni Sebħ.
It will be offering protection to survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, forced abortions, and forced prostitution, among others.
The shelter is equipped with modern facilities including therapy rooms, and will be able to cater for 12 families, up from nine at the previous shelter Dar Qalb Il-Ġesu.
“Three years ago I remember the residents and workers were finding it difficult to come to terms with leaving the shelter at Dar Qalb il Ġesu,” said Fondazzjoni Sebħ director, Yvonne Mallia.

Church organisations left in the lurch by six-figure shortfalls in donations this week are hoping to make up some of the damage on Sunday, when the Church celebrates its yearly Charity Day.
Dar tal-Providenza and Caritas were among charities affected by a technical error at telecoms provider GO that resulted in €1.4 million in donations being double-counted. The error means donations to affected organisations made during TV fundraisers in late 2020 are hundreds of thousands of euro lower than originally expected.
Affected organisations were informed of the technical error in February but the mistake was only made public this week. In a statement, the Church had said that affected organisations’ work for the upcoming year would be derailed by the error.
