SHREVEPORT, La. â City Council members postponed a vote on a contract with a Shreveport company to return recycling to the city.
Without discussion, the council was unanimous Tuesday afternoon in taking no action on the proposal from C. Edwards Concepts LLC for curbside recycling. That differs from the July 13 meeting, where there was some debate on the issue.
Business owner Charlette Edwards stands to gain a $10 million contract with the city to resume recycling. Thatâs despite having no experience or equipment.
At least two council members have said publicly they will vote no on Edwardsâ contract. There was no discussion at Tuesdayâs meeting about when the contract will be up for consideration again.

SHREVEPORT, La. - Around 75 firefighters fought a massive two-alarm fire in Shreveport s Highland neighborhood Tuesday Morning in which two vacant houses were destroyed.Â
It started just before 6 a.m. in the 400 block of Jordan Street. Â
Fire Chief Scott Wolverton said five water tankers from South Louisiana responded to the scene. I can t says enough about these men that came out from South Louisiana to help with these tankers. We didn t have sufficient hydrant pressure from all the hydrants that were on scene about 20 PSI was all we had. That s not enough to sustain operations. They were able to provide about 25,000 gallons of water on scene and they ve helped us on scene getting it extinguished, Wolverton said.Â
Issues with low or water pressure (or no water at all) are plaguing residents across the ArkLaTex, but those same issues are also making it harder for firefighters to do their jobs.
Shreveport Firefighter Dies From COVID Contracted On Duty
Shreveport Fire Chief Scott Wolverton has announced the line of duty death of a Shreveport Firefighter today.
In a release from the Shreveport Fire Department, and Mayor Adrian Perkins Office, Chief Wolverton says that 13-year Shreveport Fire veteran Leonard Coney had died from complications of COVID-19. The release says that this is a line of duty death, because Coney contracted COVID-19 after being exposed while on duty.
The release says Coney spent his career working with Medic 5, and Fire Station #5, on Stoner Ave. He joined the Shreveport Fire Department in August of 2007.
