Conducted by the LSU Department of Sociology professors Matthew Valasik, Elizabeth E. Braulta, and Stephen M. Martinez, “Forecasting Homicide in the Red stick: Risk Terrain Modeling and the Spatial Influence of Urban Blight on Lethal Violence in Baton Rouge, Louisiana” the research looks at environmental factors and social structure in determining areas most at risk of experiencing homicides.

Shreveport Firefighter Dies From COVID Contracted On Duty Shreveport Fire Chief Scott Wolverton has announced the line of duty death of a Shreveport Firefighter today. In a release from the Shreveport Fire Department, and Mayor Adrian Perkins Office, Chief Wolverton says that 13-year Shreveport Fire veteran Leonard Coney had died from complications of COVID-19. The release says that this is a line of duty death, because Coney contracted COVID-19 after being exposed while on duty. The release says Coney spent his career working with Medic 5, and Fire Station #5, on Stoner Ave. He joined the Shreveport Fire Department in August of 2007.
