Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder has offered Police Chief Kenny Winslow a 5% pay raise in hopes of convincing the capital city s longtime top cop to stay on the job.
Winslow, 50, Springfield s police chief since 2013, confirmed in an email to the city s aldermen Sunday evening that he tentatively accepted an offer to become a deputy chief of the police department in Franklin, Tennessee, a mid-sized town about 20 miles south of Nashville.
Winslow s hiring and a Jan. 19 start date were already announced in a news release from Franklin city government last Thursday.
But, Winslow has not yet resigned his position in Springfield, saying that he and his family are truly torn on whether to leave for Tennessee or stay here.
