Springfield, IL fire department budget trimmed by $1 4 million

Nearly half of the Springfield Fire Department s operating budget was slashed Tuesday and the Springfield City Council added on eight amendments that directly affected the Fiscal Year 2022 corporate fund budget before giving its final approval on a 9-1 vote. That vote capped a nearly four-and-a-half-hour evening that started with a Committee of the Whole meeting then went to a public hearing session before the special city council meeting. It was also the last meeting for Ward 3 Ald. Doris Turner. Turner was selected by the 48th Legislative District Committee on Feb. 6 to fill Sen. Andy Manar s seat in the Illinois Senate.

New fire chief confirmed with Springfield City Council vote

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield s city council has confirmed a new fire chief in a Tuesday vote.  Brandon Blough, 48, was announced on Nov. 30 by Mayor Jim Langfelder as the city s replacement for Allen Reyne, who has retired. Blough had been acting chief for the city following Reyne s departure at the end of November.  In November, Langfelder said Blough will be able to provide a smooth transition with his efforts as Deputy Division Chief, while working to advance the efforts of the department.” Blough s experience includes two decades in the Springfield Fire Department after he joined in 1999. His multiple roles include serving as a firefighter from 1999 to 2006, a driver-engineer from 2006 to 2010, a technical rescue team diver from 2001 to 2002, a captain from 2010 to 2018, and a deputy division chief of operations beginning in 2018.

Brandon Blough confirmed as Springfield fire chief

Brandon Blough confirmed as Springfield fire chief Brandon Blough is officially Springfield’s new fire chief.  The Springfield City Council unanimously approved Blough’s appointment Tuesday evening, elevating the deputy division chief of operations to the top job vacated by Chief Allen Reyne two weeks ago. Blough has served as acting chief since Nov. 30.  Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder chose Blough after interviewing three candidates from within the department for the position. A fairly unique clause in the city’s contract with the firefighters union requires that the mayor choose the chief from the current ranks. Blough was pinned by his wife, Tamara, and his father, Bill, who was a Springfield firefighter for 27 years. Also in attendance were Reyne and other members of the senior command staff.
