Bhupinder Singh Mann, one of the panel members appointed by the Supreme Court to resolve the deadlock on the new farm laws, recused himself from the committee on Thursday. He said that he would always stand with the farmers and Punjab.
“As a farmer myself and a union leader, in view of the prevailing sentiments and apprehensions amongst the farm unions and the public in general, I am ready to sacrifice any position offered or given to me so as to not compromise the interests of Punjab and farmers of the country,” he said in a statement, tweeted by the Bharatiya Kisan Union, one of the main farmer bodies involved in the protests.

Supreme Court Implements a Stay on the Three Farm Laws:- The Indian farmers are protesting indefinitely against the newly introduced three farm laws that are passed in the Parliament last year. The protests of the farmers crossed 40 days at the borders of the national capital New Delhi. Seven rounds of talks took place between the Centre and the Farmer Unions but a possible resolution was never found. The farmers warned of intensifying the protests in the coming weeks. A series of petitions are filed in the Supreme Court and the top court responded about the issue.

Farmers protesting against the new agriculture laws on Tuesday said they will not appear before the Supreme Court-appointed committee to resolve the matter, as its members supported the legislations and were “pro-government”, PTI reported.
“The members of the committee are not dependable as they have been writing on how agriculture laws are pro-farmer,” Balbeer Singh Rajewal of Bharatiya Kisan Union said, at a press conference held by the protestors on Tuesday evening. He said the farmers were against the committee on principle and it was the government’s way to divert attention from the protests, adding that the agitation will continue, PTI reported.

The farmers, who have been camping on the borders of Delhi for over a month in protest against the new farm laws, continued their agitation amid a downpour leading to waterlogging at the protest sites. Farmers were seen huddled together under blankets inside their vehicles to keep warm. Tents were set up with waterproof tarpaulin sheets as protection from the rain.
