Mumbai: Mumbai police on Thursday arrested the former chief operating officer (COO) of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) in connection with the alleged television rating point (TRP) rigging scam, an official said.
Romil Ramgarhia, former COO of the BARC, was arrested in the afternoon by a team of Mumbai crime branch, which is probing the TRP case, he said. This is the 14th arrest in the case.

The Republic TV CEO Vikas Khanchandani, who was arrested in the TRP (television rating points) manipulation case, received bail on December 16 on a cash surety of Rs 50,000. The latest development in the case is that Romil Ramgarhia, former chief operating officer (COO) of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), was arrested by Mumbai Police in connection with the alleged TRP rigging scam.
As per a PTI report, Romil Ramgarhia was arrested on the afternoon of December 17 by a team of Mumbai Crime Branch. Apparently, this is the 14th arrest in the TRP scam case.
Romil Ramgarhia had left BARC in July this year.

NEW DELHI: Mumbai police has taken in custody former Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) COO Romil Ramgarhia, marking the 14th arrest in the TRP manipulation case. He has been remanded in police custody till 19 Dec.
The development comes a day after Republic TV CEO Vikas Khanchandani was granted bail in the same case.
Ramgarhia had left BARC in July this year after a six-year-long stint with the council.
The alleged scam was busted in October this year when Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh held a press conference stating that three channels – Republic TV, Box Cinema, Fakt Marathi – were rigging ratings by paying people to keep the channels on even when they were not watching them. Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) in connection with the alleged TRP (Television Rating Points) rigging scam, an official said.
Romil Ramgarhia, who was BARC s COO between 2014 and 2020, was apprehended from his residence in Antop Hill in Mumbai in the early hours of Thursday. He was formally placed under arrest in the afternoon by the Mumbai crime branch, which is probing the TRP case, he said.
This is the 14th arrest in the case.
After his arrest, Ramgarhia was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court here, which remanded him in police custody till December 19.
