SEMINOLE MEN AND WOMEN PERFORM WELL ON FIRST DAY OF ACC OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Florida State men are in sixth place and the Seminole women are in 10 th place after the first day of the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility at NC State.  Isaac Grimes was a winner on the men’s side as he was victorious in the long jump competition. “The men had a solid day one,” said head coach Bob Braman.  “We qualified well in the 200m with two of the top four times for Jo’Vaughn (Martin) and Kasaun (James), and Kasey (Knevelbaard) was an easy heat winner in the 1500m.  Riley (Ott) had a good first day in the decathlon and is second place going to the final day tomorrow.  We were perhaps three points better than projected – our first and fourth places in the long jump were key. Grimes kept his ACC undefeated streak alive and Jacore Irving was fourth placed which was better than projected.

FSU Track and Field Set to Begin Championship Season at ACC Outdoors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  The Florida State Track and Field team will begin their championship season as they travel to Raleigh, N.C to compete in this year’s ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday, Friday and Saturday inside Paul Derr Track. The men’s and women’s team, which rank fifth and eleventh respectively on the latest USTFCCA NCAA Division l Outdoor Track & Field national polls, will enter the championship meet with 11 NCAA top-10 times and marks, including six that rank among the five-best in the nation and one that leads the NCAA. Jo’Vaughn Martin, who ranks in the top 10 nationally in the 100 and 200 meters, will be competing in his first ACC Outdoor Championship while headlining the 200 meters event. Martin ranks No. 1 in the nation in the 100 meters with a personal-record time of 9.94, while sitting at No. 7 in the NCAA ranks for the 200 meters with a time of 20.22.

Cunningham Hurdles Back Onto The Bowerman Watch List

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  Florida State senior Trey Cunningham was named to The Bowerman 2021 Men’s Pre-Conference Championships Watch List, announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA). The hurdler is one of ten student-athletes named to the updated list and he is making his seventh appearance on the Bowerman Award Watch List after spending a brief time off the list in the last announcement. Cunningham returns to the watch list following his record-breaking performance at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational just a few weeks ago in Gainesville, Fla. His 110-meter hurdles personal best time of 13.28 took second overall but first collegiate as Olympian Grant Holloway won the event with the fastest time in the world so far with a 13.07.

May 5, 2021 Love, Martin, and Grimes Named ACC Performers of the Week TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Atlantic Coast Conference recognized three Florida State track and field athletes as performers of the week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Shanice Love earned Women’s Co-Field Performer of the Week, Jo’Vaughn Martin named Men’s Co-Track Performer of the Week and Isaac Grimes as Men’s Field Performer of the Week. Love shares Women’s Performer of the Week honors with Jill Shippee of North Carolina. The Kingston, Jamaica native discus throw of 59.82m (196-3) at the North Florida Invitational leads the ACC and ranks third in the nation. Her first-place throw ranked ahead of Olympian Shadae Lawrence and 31 other throwers in the talented field.

Noles Conclude Regular Season Competition at UNF Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team concluded their regular season competition at the UNF Invitational on Friday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla. The final day was highlighted by multiple personal best performances as well as 10 top-five finishes. “Edidiong Odiong had a great meet and is really emerging as a National scoring threat,” said Head Coach Bob Braman. “Jayla Kirkland has been doing a great job of showing her the way the last two meets. Maudie Skyring continues to lead our distance ladies, and the discus trio threw fantastic. On the men’s side our older guys really set the tone. Isaac Grimes, Fabian Edoki, Jacore Irving, Adriaan Wildschutt, Milton Ingraham, DaeQwan Butler, Jo’Vaughn Martin and others all competed like National players.” The women’s sprinters battled in the 100 meters to overcome a broken clock call back after 60 meters.
