seem to be continually ignoring the signs that the people who are come outing to vote, that s changing. i would be surprise tpd they continue to ignore it at the level that they are. but i think we have seen over the i would say the last 10 to 12 years, the republican party going through a real battle between grassroots in surgens, establishment wing, purity test the tests being applied. the democratic party seems to be going through a process not dissimilar from what republicans have spent the last 12 years going through. it has the energy. it is where the fuel and the fire is inside the party. and i think that if you are a long-time establishment leader inside the party, you ignore it at your peril. yes, the parties are becoming more polarized. this is more evidence of that. the energy is on the left in the democratic party. we have seen the tea party take
get a republican we ll be asking that question a lot through the rest of the night. e we seen it play out, the divisions within the republican party, between progressives and moderates? it s interesting. in different pockets we re seeing everything is in iowa. bernie sa the sanders the party. clinton dynamic in bakari can certainly speak to this. but the sanders juice inside the party that was part of the 2016 race doesn t seem to be translating just yet to of the people he s endorsed. and i was the biggestf th the guy who ran the sanders campaign in iowa, that basically drew hillary clinton to a tie in those caucuses if you remember he s not going to come through as a democratic nominee tonight, despite the fact that bernie sanders was on tv for him, raised a lot of money for him. so i think that divide in the party certainly exists. there s no doubt there s a tension between the grassroots energy and the establishment
people on the record saying, i can t do it. to your point, she may be the right person for that job. she s incredible at it. call me crazy, i don t see the math as democrats the way they say, i see a lot of seats in play and they have to run a perfect election and in the primaries and specials hasn t been great for the establishment wing of democrats in texas 7 and pennsylvania in 18. they ran against them. so they re going to have huge problems regardless. i also just think i don t know if they get there. they have to run a perfect election. they have history on their side, but as umbc taught us the other night- you re crazy, you re crazy, you re crazy. it s a long shot. one thing you might have missed in the midst of all the crazy news coming out of washington this week was hillary
aspirations to be in public life. beyond that, what is he going to bring to the table in this race at a time in which the primaries matter going into the next cycle. you re going to have the more bannon wing of the party putting up very conservative challenges to the more establishment wing of the party. this may be compared to the various southern states that may be in play, this may be the more tame one of the bunch. it s still a shift after what 40 years that is orrin hatch has been in the seat. this is an open season and an opportunity for everybody to play hard ball and can romney also play hard ball and tell everybody. those republicans who were yearning for some adult in the room for lack of a better way to say it are probably begging romney to run. before we take a break, senator hatch leaves as the longest serving republican senator. here he is on cnn almost 37 years ago. and the teddy he s talking about and what i m about to show you
