Jewish morning works used to be called the bureau of Jewish Education and started earlier. It was called Jewish Education center and we changed our name about eight years ago. And the purpose of those organizations is to promote to advance jewish learning in the community. Thats what its always been. As schools begin to develop in the mid20th century in San Francisco and the bay area, the bureaus main strategy was to support those schools, to make education better. The way we made education better was by supporting the schools and providing training, professional development for educators, curricular materials, resources, and to a large degree, we still do that because education is now much broader. This is a conversation about human beings and an ethical issue. For me, it started years ago in childhood and adolescence. In 2004, when i made my first visit to eastern chad and the refugee camps, right as they were coming over. And in those camps, i would say it is when you nt start stors. Years later, and looking at this world we are living in, we often forget there are people involved and thats what led to this book. And it is an opportunity for young jewish undergraduate College Students to have an internship in a jewish Nonprofit Organization in the bay area. Wonderful. How long has the Internship Program been functioning . For 34 years, weve been going, so this program has run every summer for the last 34 years and it has really changed a lot over time. In a moment, we will ask about her particular experience, but can you let us know how many interns are with you this summer and how many nonprofit jewish organizations participate and how the program is structured . The Program Allows for up to 30 different interns, and they can live all over the bay area from San Francisco and some from the east bay and south bay and marin county theygo t sign people who have grown up here.
