Welcome and lets jump in and talk about what is beyond differences. It is a Student Leadership organization exclusively dedicated to ending socialize station in middle school and im sure many of you can remember when you help terribly left out and there was one child that always set by themselves, and were working to change the culture of middle school so that everyone feels excepted and included when they show up each day accepted and included when they show up each day. How do you see it actually functioning. We see students that have felt left out, and by bringing awareness to the other students they know those kids to spend the time the library, the bathroom or away from other students. And what we know about social isolation, there is medical evidence that finds that students that are socially isolated are impact later on in life. They exist in different mostly urban jewish communities around the country. So can you talk a little bit about what the history of federations across the country is the . Absolutely. There are more than 150 of them around the country. They were formed with the idea of bringing the community together, and assuring there was a fundraising arm for the community, a planning for the community and the federation build communities around the country with their partners. And so our Federation Region serves San Francisco city and county, and the peninsula throughout the mountain view. Correct. In our particular federation, in this region, first of all, what we do is we can be in our partners. Positive. Which is why i find myself as a leader in the community now. Im buy racial and that wo pose a challenge would pose a challenge at times. People would question why we were there and even say are you sure youre jewish, which would be difficult at times. Yes. And my experience was both wonderful and also complicated and challenging. I grew up here in San Francisco and went to synagogue and just one of a few kids who are not white or recognized as white in the community. I had a rich experience growing up with Jewish Values and practices in the Jewish Community and people wondering when i was adopted, when i became jewish, when i learned the prayers rather than assuming that i was a natural part of the fabric of the Jewish Community. So we have in our Jewish Community and culture, this tremendous respect for what we think of as text life. Encourage people to read one book over a particular period of time. We encourage people to read a jewish book and discussion. Our collection this year is actually the periodic table. He was an italian writer born in 1919 and he grew up in the fascist area and was sent to auschwitz. He wrote a number of books on this experience, but this is unlike any that any of the others that he wrote. Moderator what is one day, one book . We want people to not only be reading books, but to discuss them. We are encouraging people to pick up this book and either get together with friends, or if they are part of an institution like a synagogue or community center, to get together and talk about the book. I am convinced that after all of these years as a librarian that we get a different experience out of discussing a book then we do with just reading it alone.
