New Delhi: In the historic first virtual summit, âQuadâ leaders Friday, in a strong message to China, agreed to work closely together and âstriveâ for a region that is free, open, inclusive, supports rule of law, peaceful resolution of disputes, democratic values, and territorial integrity.
The Quad, or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue â comprising the US, India, Japan and Australia â which was formed as a new bloc against the rise of China, came down heavily on Beijing and signaled that the Quad âlooks forward to the futureâ and âit seeks to uphold peace and prosperity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated, along with Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison and Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga and President of U.S.A. Joseph R. Biden, in the first Leadersâ Summit of the Quadrilateral Framework, held virtually on 12 March 2021.
The Leaders discussed regional and global issues of shared interest, and exchanged views on practical areas of cooperation towards maintaining a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. The Summit provided an opportunity to exchange views on contemporary challenges such as resilient supply chains, emerging and critical technologies, maritime security, and climate change.
