Navarre teen charged with murder after carjacking attempt turns deadly

View Comments A Navarre teenager has been charged with murder after authorities say a plot she and a friend hatched to steal a man s car turned deadly when the man defended himself and shot both of the teens, killing one of them. Jennifer Elizabeth Marie Broxson, 18, was arrested last week and charged with second-degree felony murder in the Oct. 22, 2020, death of 16-year-old Allison Marie Dejaynes. Broxson and Dejaynes were accomplices in a plot to carjack a man who they met online, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said at a press conference Monday. The teenagers arranged to meet the man in person and after he drove them to the Simmons River Fishing Pier off U.S. 90 in Milton, they attacked him with a stun gun, pepper spray and a hammer as they tried to steal his car, according to Broxson s arrest report. The man tried to fight off the teenagers with a fold-out baton from his glove box and when that failed, he pulled out a handgun and fired at them, the report states.

View Comments Two teenagers attacked a man with a stun gun, a hammer and pepper spray during an attempted carjacking that resulted in the death of one of the teens, according to a newly released arrest report. Jennifer Elizabeth Marie Broxson, 18, was arrested May 5 and charged with second-degree felony murder, aggravated battery, carjacking and obstructing justice. A 16-year-old who authorities identified as her accomplice in the carjacking, Allison Marie Dejaynes, was shot by the man the teenagers were trying to rob. She later died at the hospital. Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said at a press conference Monday that the case was complex it was initially suspected as a stand your ground incident   and it took investigators months to determine what took place. Broxson was also injured in the shooting and had to recover before she could be booked into jail.

Broxson was also charged with aggravated battery, robbery and obstructing justice. Because Broxson was a juvenile at the time of the homicide, she was not booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail following her Wednesday arrest. Instead, she was taken to Department of Juvenile Justice for processing, according to the release. SRSO deputies responded at about 1:15 a.m. Oct. 22, 2020, to a shooting at the Simmons River Fishing Pier near the 3200 block of U.S. 90. Deputies located Dejaynes and a second shooting victim and transported them both to a local hospital. Dejaynes was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Because the incident involved juveniles, few details about the shooting had been made pubic as of Friday, including any identifying information pertaining to the second victim.
