SCIOTO Ice and snow once again brought businesses to a halt after the winter weather made roadways hazardous for drivers.
Despite road crews’ best efforts to keep roads clear, ice and snow won the battle Monday evening and Tuesday, causing trees to fall, power outages, roads to become impassable and a Level 2 Snow Emergency to be declared.
Rivalry Intensified: Dragons escape feisty Cougars in HHC opener
GREENFIELD Messages were delivered, loud and clear.
While the rivalry between the Greenfield-Central Cougars and the New Palestine Dragons didn’t need any added emphasis, the fire was stoked regardless on Friday night as both programs held little back during their Hoosier Heritage Conference opener.
The 55th meeting between the Dragons and host Cougars showcased a tug-of-war with both teams tied 27-27 in the series, but New Palestine made it 17 wins in the past 21, prevailing 68-58.

[File photo by Derrick Stuckly]CHINA SPRING – Trailing by double digits late in the contest, the Brownwood Lions shaved the lead of No. 11 China Spring to one possession, but the Cougars held on for a 49-46 victory Friday night.
The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Lions (3-4), while China Spring improved to 5-4 on the season.
“I was very proud of our guys tonight,” said Lions head coach Nadir Dalleh. “We were down 13 points late in the the game and fought back to have a chance to win. Eli Stephens is one of the best guards in the state with a DI scholarship. He scored 16 points in the first half and we dug in and held him to three points in the second half. I’m very proud of our kids for sure.”
