She has devoted her entire career to serving as an advocate for virginias families and children. She currently serves as a board member of the virginia board of education. From 2014 until 2016, she served as secretary of education for the commonwealth of virginia. She resigned in july 2016 when her husband, United States senator and former governor tim kaine was asked to be Hillary Clintons running mate.
