tornado alley. this is where tornadoes form this time of yoor. we had a slow spring and it has all changed in the last ten days. the humidity levels creeped up in a big way. if you are in oklahoma city, you know how hot and humid it was. if there s any slight difference to the day we saw with moore, oklahoma, these storms are firing further to the north. the day before the moore, oklahoma, tornado, there were big tornados that we watched in the afternoon, live pictures cutting to the north of oklahoma city. that town had two days of it in a row and we have it here again. it looks like these are track engine an area somewhere between oklahoma city and edmund to the north. if they head due east, which they tend to do. it will go across the heavily populated corridor, that is really highway 77 that goes down to oklahoma city and then interstate 35. that whole area, pretty heavily
ground and one of the things i learned when we were in moore, oklahoma last week, sometimes the tornadoes are so low to the ground and so wide, it can be coming toward your house, it looks like a cloud and you do not realize it s a tornado. a wedge tornado can be a mile wide. if you are sitting in your home and look out, you cannot see to either end of it, and you do not know what is coming until you hear it. this one potentially a more dangerous situation, because there s a lot of rain with it, and you will have less of a visual sign. i was reading the highway signs from oklahoma earlier this afternoon, and they said before 4:00 and 6:00 you need to get ready because we think that is when the storms will begin. and then the rush hour began at 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon. it looked as if as people from the oklahoma city area, all the way down to moore and up to the north as well, were just getting out of town. i have been reading that a
we were in a dangerous situation unfortunate&y and an entire farm yard basically blew over top of us. shepard: a farm yard yes, a farm yard, vehicles, building, everything, blew over top of us and our truck, you know, we have lost the glass out of it and fortunately we are all safe. shepard: so, this storm took a turn that we were not expecting and i guess clearly you were not expecting. yeah, i mean, it was heading east, and then it just sort of started to turn to the southeast as we are following it now, it appear honestly, as scary as it sounds, it appears to be heading directly toward oklahoma city and moore. shepard: well, yeah, anywhere on the line from 15 miles north of oklahoma city and 15 miles south, everyone has to take shelter now according to the national weather because this
what i m seeing on the radar is morrow tagz back behind this. so, say, 30 miles behind this one cell. a second cell developing with rotation, potentially, an additio al tornado moving again right past where we saw the first one. shepard: so where we thought it was going to go south and east of oklahoma city, the storm has turned and now we are talking northwest oklahoma city, the village, will rodgers park, bethany, and oklahoma city itself, now it s headed to the east and north, rick? yes. however, i am not will to say anybody on the south iside of that, you can breathe a sigh of relief. that is not the case at all with this. in fact, a storm of this size, it s wobbling a little bit. it s not going in a direct straight line. so, anybody, anywhere from edmond up towards edmond and in between edmond and oklahoma city, and down to about moore needs to be prepared for this
the storm moving off to the east, think of the path we had with moore, of 20 miles long, and this tornado crossing over that path at some point. and all of the debris on the ground, we do not have to say what it will do. shepard: we don t, when it passes mustang, and that s the way it s headed, rick, it looks as though the storm is on the collision coerce of i-240 and i-44, that is just south of oklahoma city, between south oklahoma city and oklahoma city itself and right after that is the town of moore, this last tornado that hit thq)e monday. it tracked along for many, many miles on the ground. we tracked it live for the better part of 45 minutes with a helicopter. yes, it s heading directly toward that. i am seeing pictures and we don t have this picture right here on our screen. but i m seeing pictures of a very large tornado on the ground just to txe south of el reno. so some of that picture that you are seeing there, we are getting
