there s a wall eastbound. it s coming into the heart of if city now. shepard: you talk very fast, as you know, jeff and i have a hard time understanding you. did you just say that this headed into the town of oklahala city? yes, people are fleeing the path of the tornado, i have state troopers and highway patrol, they are trying to get out of the path. it s west of me, look at the radar. shepard: okay for our rur viewers, i-40 and i-44 cross paths, and it s a completely populated area, absolutely completely populated, there s no breaks. it s like a large city with suburban areas and it s all grown together and all of it is heavily populated. highway patrol are running eastbound. and southbound.
now on the ground and they are all headed directly for oklahoma city. this is the worst case scenario imaginab imaginable. and people in oklahoma have lived with this forever, it s my hope that every single person in that area has taken shelter underground, but i know better. jeff, are you in a safe place? and if not, why not. yes, research team just passed me, flying eastbound, trying to get out of the path. they are trying to track the storm. running eastbound. i have a i m going to estimate well over 100 vehicles are flying eastbound with oklahoma highway patrol escorting them.ti r have highwa behind me, they are in the fast lane, and literally everyone is running eastbound to get us on of the path of the tornado. it s an unbelievable scene.
the storm moving off to the east, think of the path we had with moore, of 20 miles long, and this tornado crossing over that path at some point. and all of the debris on the ground, we do not have to say what it will do. shepard: we don t, when it passes mustang, and that s the way it s headed, rick, it looks as though the storm is on the collision coerce of i-240 and i-44, that is just south of oklahoma city, between south oklahoma city and oklahoma city itself and right after that is the town of moore, this last tornado that hit thq)e monday. it tracked along for many, many miles on the ground. we tracked it live for the better part of 45 minutes with a helicopter. yes, it s heading directly toward that. i am seeing pictures and we don t have this picture right here on our screen. but i m seeing pictures of a very large tornado on the ground just to txe south of el reno. so some of that picture that you are seeing there, we are getting
west of oklahoma city and west of i-40. it s right in the path. the first tornado has passed through the el reno area and getting close right now to yukon, which is slightly larger populated. you are going to oklahoma city. shepard: it s a closer suburb. it is. i can tell you on the radar, there s morrow ta more rotati back behind the storm. i m looking at the radar. shepard: i have info on that, rick. a storm chaser is saying that he sees what he believes to be a wedge tornado, a few miles south and west of yukon right now. okay, that is the main tornado that we have been seeing. shepard: okay. and that would be a wedge tornado, exactly what we have been hearing, that is probably a mile wide, so anything in that mile wide path is likely going to be destroyed if not incredibly damaged.
additional rotation around el reno that saw this a few minutes ago. yukon right now getting it and this, looking at tñis point like it s heading directly toward oklahoma city. because it is such a large storm and because there are multiple tornados within it, i am not confident at all to say that moore is moore, oklahoma, that was hit last week, is out of the woods of this. it lookj like we will take a direct hit again to the oklahoma city area, with a potentially mile to mile and a half wide tornado. they have just began evacuating will rodgers international airport. it s on a path to hit the airport and hit northwest oklahoma. this is the worst case scenario. throughout all of this coverage over the last couple of weeks as we have all been briefed about, if it starts here, and heads in this the absolute worst thing it can happen, which would be
