VINELAND - Good luck granted Danny Bermudez of Vineland a mobile barbershop, now he needs state legislation to put it on the road.
Where New Jersey consumers are accustomed to drive-in, drive-up, and drive-thru businesses, Bermudez was surprised to learn barbershops on wheels aren’t permitted.
Setting out to change that, the Dugout Barber Shop owner enlisted the help of a former customer, state Sen. Mike Testa, R-1.
That Facebook message resulted in pending legislation that would allow salons and barbershops to conduct business beyond their brick-and-mortar shops.
Not only convenient to customers, the one-to-one onsite service addresses COVID-19 exposure concerns for those reluctant to venture out, Bermudez said.
The barber of any street: NJ could allow shops on wheels
TRENTON The latest pandemic-era business model advancing in the Legislature, at the urging of a Vineland business owner, is one allowing for mobile barbershops and hair salons.
State Sen. Mike Testa, R-Cumberland, said the proposal is “a common-sense, bipartisan bill that places New Jersey entrepreneurs and businesses back behind the wheels of their businesses.”
“These mobile services will open doors for new opportunities for hard-working professionals with ambitions to grow their business and serve more customers,” Testa said. “Given the popularity of food trucks and the renewed emphasis on convenience and safety during this pandemic, barber shops and hair salons on wheels makes absolute sense.”
