The iowa state patrol has some driving tips to avoid a sticky situation in the snow. First. Troopers say you should check your headlights and tire tread before heading out. And when you are out. Keep a light foot on the pedal. And avoid using cruise control. Finally. Be sure to pack a car charger. Blanket. And water. In case you get stuck along the road. A chase through des moines left a squad car damaged. And a suspect on the run. It started in the one thousand block of southeast king avenue. Around 3 am. Officers tried to pull over a van. But it sped off. At times topping 70 miles per hour. During the pursuit. A squad car struck a utility pole. The officer was not injured. Police later found the van abandoned at 2nd avenue and center street. Police say theyre following up a few leads. But no arrests have been made.
