The attack in the former french colony led to an hourslong standoff and rescue mission. With at least 21people killed. Emily schmidt has more from washington. At least two attackers stormed a hotel in malis capital friday. The upscale Radissonblu Hotel was hosting diplomatic delegations for peace talks in the landlocked african country. Apparently the people entered the compound of the hotel with cars with diplomatic plates. What i can tell you is that people entering with ak47s in the hotel, im not sure they are here to negotiate. The Radisson Hotel chain says as many as 170 people were in the hotel around 7 in the morning when the attackers took hostages. One man using the gym says he managed to escape.
