Sign Up The creation of a walking and cycling route between Broughty Ferry and Monifieth will be a “world class asset”, according to Dundee Cycling Forum. On Monday, Dundee City Council’scity development committee agreed to start a consultation with the public which could lead to the creation of a direct walking and cycling route between Dundee and Angus. The £9 million project would see the coastal path upgraded with new street lighting, and will connect Windmill Gardens to Castle Green and create a new bridge over the Dighty Burn.

Man convicted of murdering Catholic schoolboy wins permission to challenge decision to deny him re-release

One of the men convicted of the baseball bat murder of a Catholic schoolboy has won High Court permission to challenge a decision to deny him re-release from prison. Mervyn Moon was jailed for his part in the fatal attack on 15-year-old Michael McIlveen in Ballymena, Co Antrim back in May 2006. Moon, 32, had previously been freed on licence after serving the minimum 10-year tariff on his life sentence. In 2017 those arrangements were revoked and he was recalled to prison for an alleged breach. He is challenging a decision taken by Northern Ireland s Parole Commissioners in June 2020 to refuse his bid to be let out again.

Fury over lockdown litter piling up in Broughty Ferry

Calls have been made for walkers to show more care for footpaths and walkways after piles of discarded coffee cups and litter began mounting in recent days. Broughty Ferry councillor Craig Duncan said he was appalled and disgusted on his daily walk at the weekend when he came across dozens of discarded cardboard coffee cups. He said he was horrified at how disrespectful people were being to their own community and  is now appealing to those out on their walk to make sure they take their own “lockdown litter” home. Mr Duncan said: “I have received loads of complaints about the rubbish that has been left strewn all around the walkway and cycle way between Douglas Terrace and the grassy beach area in Broughty Ferry.
