Shota Yabuuchi leads Scorpions in strong state finishes

Sedona Red Rock News Sedona Red Rock High School junior Shota Yabuuchi crosses the finish line ahead of the competition at the Marauder Early Qualifier, held at Mingus Union High School in April. Yabuuchi and his Scorpion teammates competed at the Division IV State Championship Track Meet on Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15. He finished second in the 1,600 meter race and won the 3,200 meter race, cementing his status as one of Arizona’s best distance runners. In fact, it was the first race of any kind held at Loon this winter and Lumberjack coach Aaron Loukes expressed his thanks for their assistance in making the race happen. Special thanks to Loon Mountain Resort and the Loon Race Team for helping put on the race, Loukes said. The day s competition included two runs of giant slalom in the morning and a run of giant slalom in the afternoon, with Profile, Gorham, Littleton, White Mountains, Moultonborough and Woodsville also taking part. The Lin-Wood boys took the overall win while the Lin-Wood girls finished in second place.
