Shota Yabuuchi leads Scorpions in strong state finishes

Sedona Red Rock News Sedona Red Rock High School junior Shota Yabuuchi crosses the finish line ahead of the competition at the Marauder Early Qualifier, held at Mingus Union High School in April. Yabuuchi and his Scorpion teammates competed at the Division IV State Championship Track Meet on Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15. He finished second in the 1,600 meter race and won the 3,200 meter race, cementing his status as one of Arizona’s best distance runners. Photo by David Jolkovski/Larson Newspapers Even before the season began, Sedona Red Rock High School track and field coach Harry Schneider knew that the Scorpions didn’t have the numbers to really compete for a state championship as a team. He did, however, expect a number of athletes to compete for individual state championships. That’s exactly how things played out.
