"We are likely to become a significant data fiduciary because our core business is only with the mobile number, which is a legal identity of the consumer. There are a lot of things that we have started doing such as assessing what data we require and at what juncture," said Gulshan Khurana, executive vice president, Vodafone Idea.
Vodafone Idea: Sanjeev Dhallam, Vice President - Core Network & Security, Airtel, said that the telcos already have in place strong governance and security practices for the protection of data.
Market leader Jio believes that, at present, the cash reserve is being used to fiberise the towers of competitors which "should not happen", while second-ranked Airtel wants the Centre to now start using the fund to fiberise towers.
