Our guest is ray suarez, who has written a really terrific book entitled latino americans the 500year legacy that shaped a nation. Its a companion to the Ground Breaking pbs series on latino americans. In barely 250 pages, ray takes the reader through the broad sweep of Latino History in the United States, even before there was a United States, from the spanish explorers to the modern day. Its a majestic effort, in my view. Visibility is being impacted down to just over two miles in livermo livermore, about a mile and a half in palo alto. Its pretty clear as to why. Look at the air quality right now. Santa rosa, napa, concord, San Francisco all in the red along with oakland, livermore, and san jose. That is unhealthy air quality. The same holds true for the santa cruz area. It hasnt gotten much better since the weekend. When you take a look at the spare the air alert, it has been extended through wednesday. But theres hope. Thursday and friday, the air

Let me give you a look at air quality a rnld the bay area. You can see these red dots indicating unhealthy air. A few yellows near the north coast there, to the central part of the bay area, San Francisco, free month, concord, livermore, san jose to the south bay all have poor air quality, including locations in the santa cruz mountains. Now, we have surface wind right now thats blowing on shore. That will slowly push some of the smoke and the pollutants eastward. Its not going to happen overnight. As we look at the smoke forecast, you can see over the next two days tomorrow and into wednesday, well see the reds and purples pushing to the east and some cleaner air coming in.
