A stunning rally in the third period of Tuesday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins was supposed to provide a glimmer of hope. After scoring six goals in the third period, the Devils wanted to build off that strong finish with a good start in Thursday’s rematch, desperate to end a seven-game losing streak.

It’s safe to say the Devils have never played a game quite like Tuesday night.
For just the sixth time in franchise history, they scored six goals in one period. But for the first time, they lost one of those games, falling 7-6 to the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh after the Pens led 6-0 after two periods.
