Illinois State Police have released the details on a fatal traffic crash that occurred yesterday morning on Interstate 64 in Wayne County. According to preliminary investigation, a 26-year-old Evansville, Indiana, man was westbound in a 2004 Chrysler van at milepost 96. 23-year-old Joliet resident Austin J. Howell was eastbound in the same area in a 2021 International semi. The Indiana man, whose identity was not released last night, reportedly lost control, traveled through the center median, entered the eastbound lanes, and struck Howell head on. The driver of the van was pronounced deceased, and Howell refused medical attention. The White County Farm Bureau plans to hold its 101st Annual Meeting on January 28th at its office building on 304 East Robinson Street in Carmi. Prosecutors in St. Charles County, Missouri, have filed charges against 40-year-old Hopkinsville, Kentucky, resident Ray Tate, who has been charged in Wayne County Circuit Court in Illinois in the death of Deputy Sean Riley. Tate faces 14 felonies in Missouri, including vehicle hijacking, robbery, armed criminal action, and kidnapping. Edwards County High School and West Salem Grade School are proud to announce they raised just over $10,000 in the past two nights for the family of Deputy Riley. The schools held pie auctions at basketball games Monday and Tuesday night, and organizers said last night the proceeds would be donated to the Riley Benefit Fund at Trust Bank in Cisne. Funeral services for Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley are scheduled to be held today at 11 in the FCHS gymnasium. Per Illinois State Police, the family has requested 14 News to be the only media allowed in the gym, and they will stream the service. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has posted the processional route on its Facebook page. The route will begin at FCHS on King Street, turn left onto Fourth, turn left onto Court, turn left onto Third, turn right on Main, continue right on U.S. 45, and continue to Central Avenue in Cisne to Cisne Cemetery. Cisne officials have announced US 45 and Illinois 161 west of Cisne will be closed at noon tomorrow until the procession arrives at the cemetery, which is anticipated to be approximately 2:30 to 3. The closure will begin at 1900 North, next to Rutger's, and will continue south. Illinois 161 will open west of Blue Mound Road.
