moved to Chicago, Ill., in 1853 and continued the practice of his profession;
elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John B. Rice;
reelected to the Forty-fourth Congress and served from February 1, 1875, to March 3, 1877;
