Delhi s per capita income in the current financial year is 158 per cent higher than the national average and has increased from Rs 3,89,529 to Rs 4,44,768. The Delhi cabinet has approved the extension of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy until December 31, 2023, or until the notification of Policy 2.0, whichever comes first. This extension period will continue to offer incentives and subsidies under the existing policy. The Delhi Transport Minister has also announced that two-vehicle aggregator schemes, aimed at transitioning to electric vehicles by 2030, are in their final stages and will soon be sent for approval. The Delhi EV Policy aims to improve air quality by deploying 25% of all new vehicles as battery-operated vehicles by 2024.
Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gehlot, has suggested potential incentives for individuals interested in converting their old petrol or diesel vehicles into electric ones. He mentioned that the current electric vehicle policy will be extended for six months and a new policy is being developed that may include incentives for electric vehicle conversions. Retrofitting an old vehicle with an electric conversion kit involves removing the internal combustion engine and related systems, and installing an electric drivetrain.
The Delhi government is set to unveil its EV Policy 2.0, which will promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) through retro-fitment. Retro-fitment involves converting traditional petrol or diesel vehicles into electric ones, enabling them to run on clean energy sources. The government plans to address the high costs of retro-fitment by introducing subsidies or incentives.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will set up nearly 100 EV charging stations by the year-end as part of its target of establishing one such facility in every two square-km area, an official said on Tuesday.
