COVID-19: Delhi lockdown extended for a week, says CM Kejriwal
Lockdown in Delhi has been further extended by a week, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday. We are extending the lockdown by one more week in Delhi, the chief minister said today. Delhi recorded 6,430 new COVID-19 cases and 337 more fatalities on Saturday while the positivity rate dipped to 11.32 per cent, authorities said. The national capital had recorded 8,506 new cases on Friday and a positivity rate of 12.40 per cent.
As many as 289 more patients had succumbed to the disease on Friday, according to a health bulletin.
Meanwhile, doctors at leading government and private hospitals in Delhi said there is a relative fall in the number of cases and still a long way to go before the daily count falls below the 2,000-mark, as it was a few months earlier.

Delhi witnessed 25,986 new cases and 368 fresh fatalities Wednesday. The new cases came out of 81,829 tests, including 55,702 RT-PCR. The city recorded a maximum 1.14 lakh Covid tests in a day on April 11, but since then, daily tests have been below the one lakh mark. The figure has reduced by 27% in the last two weeks. “We must have more tests to ensure timely diagnosis, isolation and treatment of positive cases,” doctors say. “How many states are facing the kind of (oxygen) shortage Delhi is facing? People will keep dying and you will not do anything?” This is how an anguished Delhi high court bench questioned the Centre on Wednesday, observing that Delhi hadn’t received its allocated quantity of medical oxygen for a single day. The first Oxygen Express train for Delhi carrying around 70 tonnes of the life-saving gas reached the national capital early Tuesday morning. The number of Covid deaths in a day in Delhi touched 380 on Monday the highest till date. Earlier, on Thursday and Saturday, the capital had reported 357 deaths in a day. With the lockdown extended by a week, the crowds of migrant workers returning to their home villages began to swell again at the city’s bus terminals. Delhi government on Sunday announced that the lockdown that is currently in place will be extended by another week till May 3. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the lockdown will be extended till 5 am on May 3. We had imposed a 6-day lockdown in Delhi. The lockdown is being extended to next Monday till 5 am, said CM Kejriwal at a press conference. We have started a portal that will be updated every two hours by oxygen manufacturers, suppliers and hospitals for better management of oxygen supply. The Central and State teams are working together, said CM Kejriwal.
