Braden Atkinson threw three touchdown passes and Noah Rogers scored twice as No. 11 seed Rolesville overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat rival No. 3 seed Wake Forest, 42-28, on Friday in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A playoffs.
With the win, Rolesville avenged its four-point regular-season loss to the Cougars and will now travel to face No. 2 seed New Bern in the fourth round.
It was a battle of fierce defense as the Overhills Jaguars took on the Rolesville Rams, but when literal push came to shove Friday, the Rams took to the sky to defend the castle.
Rolesville, the top-ranked team in the preseason poll and the defending 4AA eastern regional champion, dropped its season opener to unranked Pinecrest, 40-36.
