Indian Army has inducted a 46-metre modular bridge into its force, enhancing its engineers bridging capabilities. The bridge, designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), is a mechanically-launched single-span assault bridge. The bridges are designed for quick deployment and retrieval, aligning with the fast-paced nature of mechanised operations.
The Defence Ministry has approved a Rs 60,000 crore upgrade of India s Su-30MKI fighter jet fleet, led by HAL and supported by DRDO. This project aims to enhance the aircraft s capabilities with new radars, mission control systems, and weapon systems, reflecting India s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The upgrade will include the integration of indigenous systems, such as a new radar system and electronic warfare capabilities, improving air-to-air and air-to-ground targeting.
Women personnel are being appointed onboard warships and as special naval air operation officers in the Indian Navy, according to Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt. He mentioned that permanent commission is being granted to women officers in various arms and services of the Army. The Indian Air Force s experimental scheme to induct women officers in all combat roles, initiated in 2015, was regularized in 2022 into a permanent one. The move reflects efforts to increase women s participation and roles in the armed forces.
An indigenously-developed green propulsion system, developed under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme, has successfully demonstrated in-orbit functionality on a payload launched by the PSLV C-58 mission. The technology has resulted in a non-toxic and environment-friendly propulsion system for low orbit space, ideal for space missions with high thrust requirements.
