maine secretary of state shannon bellows deciding to remove former president donald trump from the primary ballot there. bellows, addressing the decision last night on msnbc. i was duty bound to follow maine law, to ensure that candidates, all the candidates who appear on the primary ballot are qualified for the office they seek. but across the country, california secretary of state deciding to keep trump on the official ballot and in oregon, a decision in a similar case is expected soon as well. want to bring in nbc news justice reporter ryan reilly and former assistant d.a. catherine christian, also an msnbc legal analyst. ryan, start things off for us, if you will, we got colorado, michigan, potential oregon, heard from california, maine as well. parse through california along with maine, what broke overnight. yes, i think that with maine the main difference is between the colorado case, the colorado case is something that was decided by justices, right, by the supre

january 6th select committee hearings, judge luttig called out donald trump and his cronies as a clear and present danger to american democracy. you will recall that when the disgraced twice impeached four times indicted ex-president was pressuring mike pence to help him overturn the 2020 election results, pence in his moment of legal need called judge luttig for advice and in no uncertain terms he told mike pence that legally and constitutionally he could not help trump do what he wanted to do. now judge luttig is sounding the alarm again, about another constitutional question. does trump s role in the insurrection, not just make him a really, really bad choice to be the commander in chief, but does it actually bar him from ever holding office again? judge luttig argues that under the 14th amendment trump is actually prohibited from ever being the president again. judge luttig s legal theory is being adjudicated in multiple courts in multiple states right now. judge luttig h
and on that note, i wish you all a very, very good night. it is an honor to be back with you. from all of our colleagues across the networks of nbc news, thank you for staying up late with me. i will see you at the end of tomorrow. with news out of colorado, the state supreme court has ruled that state donald trump should be removed from the 2024 republican primary ballot. since january 6th, there has been plenty of discussion and legal circles and even some excitement about section three of the 14th amendment of the constitution, which bans insurrectionists and people who have aided insurrectionists from holding office. there has been a whole lot of interest into whether this section of the amendment might bar donald trump from running from office because of his role in the january 6th insurrection. the minnesota state court dismissed the idea. over in michigan, a judge ruled trump could not be taken off that state s ballot. in total, 14th amendment suits to disqualify t
