May 2, 2021 ⚾: Hare, Nelson Power Noles in Comeback Win vs. Troy
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Davis Hare and Mat Nelson each hit late-inning home runs, and the FSU bullpen continued its strong weekend, as No. 20 Florida State (23-16) rallied from an early deficit for a 4-2 win over Troy (21-21) Sunday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium. The win clinched the series for the Seminoles.
Each team scored just seven runs over the three-game series, which FSU won two games to one. Conor Grady continued FSU’s strong starting pitching Sunday, with a career-high 13 strikeouts with no walks. He did give up a pair of runs (one earned) over 5.0 innings.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Bryce Hubbart struck out 12 batters and allowed just two hits Saturday, but No. 20 Florida State (22-16) could not get the bats going in a 3-0 loss to Troy (21-20) at Dick Howser Stadium. Nic Nolan’s solo home run in the sixth inning broke up Hubbart’s perfect game and proved to be the winning run.
Hubbart (5-3) struck out two batters in each of the first five innings and one each in the sixth and seventh. A leadoff double in the seventh inning, followed by a balk and strikeout, ended Hubbart’s day.
Logan Cerny scored on an error to double the score against Hunter Perdue in the seventh. Troy’s third run came in the ninth inning after Cerny doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball.
April 25, 2021 ⚾: Mat Nelson Extends Home Run Lead
ATLANTA, Ga. – No. 25 Florida State (21-15, 15-12) dropped the series finale Sunday at Georgia Tech (19-16, 15-12), falling to the Yellow Jackets 9-8 at Mac Nease Ballpark. Mat Nelson hit his 18
th home run, the most in the country, before exiting the game in the sixth inning.
Earlier Sunday, the Seminoles secured the series win in a completed game from Saturday night. Florida State has won three of four road series this season.
Nander De Sedas and Elijah Cabell also hit home runs for the Seminoles. FSU led 5-0 after the first inning, but a six-run fifth inning from Georgia Tech helped the Jackets avoid the series sweep.
Scolaro allowed a double, Georgia Tech’s only extra base hit, in the seventh inning, but Tres Gonzalez was retired attempting to stretch it into a triple. Anderson pitched a perfect eighth inning and struck out a pair of batters. For the year, Anderson has 31 strikeouts against just three walks.
Dunn closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning. For the season, FSU’s team ERA is down to 3.05.

Brant Hurter (3-3) received the loss, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. LHP Dalton Smith steadied the game, pitching 3.0 innings of one-hit baseball in relief.
The 17
th-ranked Seminoles (19-14, 14-11 ACC) were led by three multi-hit performances with Davis Hare going 3-for-5. LHP Parker Messick (4-2) turned in a quality start, surrendering just three hits in six scoreless innings to get the win.
